FAQ

What to know before you axe-throw! If you have any other questions, please give us a call at (952) 452-9938 and we’d be happy to help.

What is axe throwing?

Axe throwing is a sport with a scoring system similar to darts. Each target has areas with different point values and you take aim 12 feet away from the target. Players compete with each other for the highest score or just throw for the fun of it. Our expert axe instructors will help you learn the rules quickly!

What are the axe throwing targets made of at The Fair on 4?

All of our target wood is from local cottonwood trees. We offer two target styles—classic and round. Classic targets consist of three planks of wood, and the rounds are cross sections of a tree trunk. The grain on the planks is vertical, and trunks are multidirectional. This makes the trunks a little easier to stick an axe on (which is great for beginners).

We have 11 full-service axe lanes, including one virtual target that can project different games.

Is axe throwing safe?

No activity is without risk, but we have many safety measures in place at The Fair on 4. Closed-toe shoes are required (if needed, we can provide clogs for use during your session). All guests are required to practice axe safety. That means no trick shots are allowed, no handing-off axes to others, and only one guest per target is allowed in the throwing lane at a time. If you are on a double lane, axes are retrieved from the board at the same time. As long as you follow these rules and the guidance of your axe instructor, we can all safely have a good time!

**Alcohol consumption is allowed while seated on our axe chucking lanes. All of our axe instructors at The Fair on 4 are trained to identify signs of intoxication and coordination impairment. Over-consumption may result in a loss of privilege to throw axes at the discretion of our axe instructors/Fair on 4 staff if safety rules are not being followed. Your session will not be refunded if you are asked to discontinue for blatant negligence or continual disregard of the posted axe throwing rules.

Can I order food and drinks from an axe lane?

Yes! Our axe lanes are full service! You can order food and drink from your dedicated axe instructor throughout your throwing session.

What do the axe throwing instructors do?

Our axe instructors are trained in safety precautions and will be available the whole time during your session for questions and guidance. Your axe instructor can place your drink or food order, assist with scoring and games, provide advice on technique, and create a unique entertainment experience.

Can we extend our axe session easily?

Extending a session depends on our bookings and availability. Payment is made at the end of your session. At that time, you can inquire with your axe instructor about lane availability.

Do I have to put down a deposit?

Axe throwing reservations can be booked online for select time slots and does not require a deposit. All walk-ins are first-come, first-serve and payment is made at the end of your session.

How do I cancel or reschedule?

Please send an email to fairhost@thefairon4.com or call guest services at (952) 452-9938 to cancel or reschedule your axe throwing reservation. Email is recommended.

How do I know if my child is old enough to participate?

We ask that children be 11 years or older (with a parent or guardian present) to throw. Axe throwing is a physically demanding activity. If an axe instructor notices difficulty with maintaining reasonable control of the axe, a minor may be asked to stop throwing if there is a potential safety risk. Beyond that, you'll want to make sure they are confident, respectful, and feel safe handling an axe with your supervision.

How often do you change your targets?

We maintain and inspect our boards daily. Planks are changed 1-2 times a week, and the rounds are changed every 1-2 weeks as determined necessary to provide a top-notch axe throwing experience.

Do you offer axe leagues?

Leagues are currently between seasons. This will be updated when the next season is slated to start.

Yes! Anyone with any experience level is invited to join our league to play for fun or compete for the top spot and bask in axe throwing glory! Axe leagues are 12 weeks long, including a make-up week and a final tournament. The axe league throwing times vary for flexibility. Inquire within or call guest services at (952) 452-9938 to learn more about league dates and how to sign up.

Can I bring my own axe?

We welcome guests to bring in their own axes. The axe must be sheathed until it is racked on our axe lane and inspected by an axe instructor to meet our requirements for safety before the session begins. Please call guest services at (952) 452-9938 with any questions about axe specifications.
